DANIA BEACH (CBS4) ― A South Florida magician is giving David Copperfield a run for his money.
Wednesday night, magician Avi Frier successfully pulled off a daring escape on board the Dania Beach Hurricane, South Florida's only roller coaster.
Frier was tied up in a straightjacket and blindfolded, with his legs shackled to the floor of the coaster. Then the ride took off. He had less than two minutes to escape from his restraints while the ride reached speeds of 60 miles per hour.
When the roller coaster cars came back to the boarding area and stopped, he was gone. A moment later, Frier popped up from the control booth nearby.
"It's the biggest illusion I've ever done and I was nervous until I popped out of the control booth," said Frier when the illusion was complete.
This was Frier's first large-scale public escape attempt.
